Philosophers and cognitive scientists often talk about the 'Hard Problem Of Consciousness', but I don't think there is actually a hard problem. Instead, I think there is a hard problem of anthropocentric bias. We want this mysticised explanation of qualia that aligns with human exceptionalism, but this is a deeply flawed stance. Qualia is simply just mechanistic variance. Of course, if you have different configurations of a system (us) in different environments, these systems will inevitably interact with their environment in different ways. The explanation for qualia was never going to be a human exceptionalist one, it was always going to be mechanistic, not a folk psychological explanation. Being able to quantify our subjective experience does not dehumanise us; analogous to how us figuring out that our hearts and brains are quantifiable does not dehumanise us.
